Something you should know about me
My practice is quirky, wide-ranging, curious, and deeply rooted in a sense of place, empathy, and connection. My writing ranges from interviews with arts worker unions to lyrical responses on local exhibitions of early-career artists. As I have spent my life in the Midwest, I consider myself a Midwestern arts writer with a vested commitment to elevating the voices of makers, creators, and artists in the region who are underserved, disenfranchised, and often just ignored by the arts establishment. I strive to write, respond to, and illuminate work that had previously been cast to the side as this art belongs to us all.
About my work, unique skills, and the types of environments I thrive in
I am a consummate multi-tasker and can handle multiple projects at one time. I'm fastidious about my deadlines and an open communicator. I have around a decade of experience in arts journalism, editing, and writing exhibition essays for various galleries. I've also worked with multiple image databases throughout the years.
Projects, people, and/or organizations I’ve worked with
Annette LePique is a freelance arts writer and staff editor at Sixty Inches From Center. Her writing has appeared in ArtReview, Chicago Artist Writers, Chicago Reader, Eaten Magazine, New Art Examiner, NewCity, Stillpoint Magazine, Momus (forthcoming), and Hyperallergic (forthcoming). She is a member of the International Association of Art Critics and is a 2023 recipient of the Rabkin Prize for art journalism.
Gigs and opportunities I'm open to
I enjoy writing exhibition texts for various programs, galleries, and museums, as the form provides space to create, share, and be in dialogue with an artist's work. However, I am open to all gigs that are based in a need for writing, research, and copyediting.
