Something you should know about me
Hello! I’m Stephanie Graham, and I love art and story. My practice spans photography, filmmaking, and performance, exploring social class, subcultures, race, and gender with a humorous twist. This makes complex topics more accessible and engaging. I've organized events, film festivals, and screenings. I’m also fascinated by talk shows like Oprah and unashamedly Jerry Springer, where personal stories become relatable narratives. Inspired by this, I host "noseyAF," a bi-weekly podcast featuring conversations with movers, shakers, and subculture makers. In addition, I run "Graham Cracker Pins," a small enamel pin shop. Professionally, I work on films and commercials, blending real and imagined elements in my artwork. Whether authentic or fabricated, if it connects and captivates, it's worth pursuing. Art, story, and application are always on my mind.
About my work, unique skills, and the types of environments I thrive in
The foundation of my practice is a deep curiosity about people and their stories, and exploring what it’s like to be them. I start by immersing myself in each project, conducting extensive research through books, online resources, and, most importantly, engaging directly with the individuals involved. These conversations offer invaluable insights that shape my creative process. I leverage a diverse skill set to bring my visions to life. With experience in filmmaking, art direction, photography, and event planning, I approach projects from multiple angles, ensuring dynamic outcomes. My ability to foster meaningful conversations is crucial, as it helps me connect deeply with others and create resonant work. I thrive in intellectually stimulating, collaborative, and fast-paced environments. Being surrounded by passionate, quick-thinking individuals inspires me to push the boundaries of my creativity and strive for excellence. Plus, I love check-ins to keep myself and others on track.
Projects, people, and/or organizations I’ve worked with
I love collaborating! Some favorite projects include my residency at the Chicago Art Department, where I helped plan the 2024 Crystal Ball decor and conducted interviews for marketing and archival materials. I also serve on the board of Terrain Exhibitions and co-chaired the 2023 Terrain Biennial, themed "Mycelium Connection." Artist Maya Mackrandilal and I co-created the performance series #NewGlobalMatriarchy, exploring radical Black femme futures. We embodied goddesses Lakshmi and Oya, critiquing contemporary U.S. culture, reality TV, and hyper-sexualization. Additionally, I worked with Halftone Projects, whose work was featured in the Chicago Printers Guild’s "Raise It Up!" campaign, supporting the South Side Community Art Center. These projects highlight my passion for creating impactful, thought-provoking work with diverse partners across art, activism, and community. Gigs and opportunities I'm open to
I'm currently immersed in portrait photography, filmmaking, and event planning/management, with a strong focus on project management and facilitating/hosting meaningful conversations. These are my passions, and I’m eager to collaborate on creative projects in these areas. I'm also constantly seeking opportunities to exhibit my work and create new pieces. I have so many ideas I want to pursue, including expanding my skills in essay writing, creating workshops and spaces, film programming and curating, and the art of giving grants. I'm also passionate about highlighting others' work and would love to explore opportunities in entertaining and hosting dinner parties, blending my love for creativity and connection.
